Flu Pandemic Information

A pandemic is a global disease outbreak. A flu pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus emerges for which people have little or no immunity, and for which there is no vaccine. The disease spreads easily person-to-person, causes serious illness, and can sweep across the country and around the world in very short time. Tabletop Exercise- July 7th, 2006

The LEPC, EMA, and 911 Dispatch conducted the first in a series of tabletop exercises leading up to a full scale exercise planned for 2008.  Norfolk & Southern provided two coordinators to help conduct the exercise  which consisted of a simulated train derailment involving the rupture and spill of a tank car holding a hazardous chemical that created a toxic plume. Communication using the Incident Command System (ICS), and use of the County's new Emergency Management technologies were tested successfully.  Representatives from Muncie and County Fire Departments, Muncie and County Police, EMS, MITS, Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie Sanitary District, Indiana Michigan Power, the Red Cross, Irving Materinals Inc., the Salvation Army,  County Human Resources, and the Office of Geographic Information were all involved in the response process. Observers from Wayne County EMA and State Health Department were also present.  The next  more extensive tabletop exercise is scheduled for Februrary 2007.
